THC-V, a-Humulene, and The Effects on Weight and Metabolism!

Talking about Marijuana as a form of medicine is often stigmatized. “Oh? Marijuana?”, you may have heard, “I hear that causes laziness and is used by unmotivated Hippies”. This type of response is common among many uninformed populations, that have only known of marijuana as an illegal activity. With the decriminalization of medical marijuana in over twenty states, we are now able to collect data and see that most patients are anything but lazy!

Marijuana has many uses for the active patient. A recent report from The American Journal of Medicine suggests that smoking cannabis could be linked to better metabolic health. According to the report, Individuals who intake marijuana on a regular basis displayed 16% lower fasting insulin levels (Insulin in your body before eating) than those who did not use marijuana at all. The study also found that cannabis users had a 17% lower insulin resistance levels and lower average waist circumferences. Participants in the study also had higher levels of HDL, commonly known as Good Cholesterol. HDLs help remove bad cholesterol from the arteries.
Another study preformed at San Diego State University revealed that those who regularly intake marijuana have actually shown an increase in movement and physical mobility; these individuals tend to be more active and are less likely to partake in excessive drinking of alcohol.

The Marijuana Diet, written by Art Glass, explores the benefits of healthy eating and incorporating cannabis infused meals in an 18-chapter guide. Every Patient is effected differently by cannabis, the guide recommends taking 3 hits or less to avoid and prevent the munchies from ruining a diet. There have also been recent explorations into THC-V for a possible solution to the common effect of over eating after cannabis consumption.
THC is the active cannabinoid that is responsible for the psychedelic high induced by cannabis consumption. However, THC-V acts as an antagonist of the CB1 and CB2 receptors which limits the “high” feeling and also suppresses appetite instead of giving you “The Munchies”. Cannabis that is high in THC-V also compounds its effects with natural terpenes like a-Humulene. Terpenes are what give foods flavor and organic matter its fragrance, these terpenes also have an effect on the human body.
a-Humulene has been known to have the following effects on the human body:

Acts as an analgesic to relieve pain.
It is antibacterial to slow or kill bacterial growth.
Acts as an anti-inflammatory, systematically reducing inflammation.
Known to be an anti-proliferative, inhibiting cancer cell growth.
Is an anorectic, or appetite suppressant, that promotes weight loss.
Together, THC-V and a-Humulene can help lower daily caloric intake while promoting a lifestyle and provide relief!
Sativa Strains like Blue Dream, are more commonly known to be high in THC-V and a-Humulene. Keep an eye out during your next Nature’s AZ Medicines Purchase!
